Day 289: Canned Food Drive

One of the coolest things about homecoming week is that it isn't all about the fun, friends and alumni, but about the community as a whole. Almost every event this week has some way of giving back to sweet ole' Cheney. A lot of what the school tries to do is provide canned goods and food for people in need. As admission for the Mr & Ms. Eastern pageant, students were told to bring a can of food. In addition, the bookstore is collecting non-perishable food items.

Unfortunately, some people don't like to give unless they receive something in return. Well, Eastern has made homecoming week into something similar to a spirit week in high school. For every event participated in, you will receive points. Whoever has the most points at the end of the week will be deemed the winner of homecoming. So, being as I love to give back and be involved, I had to donate some food. Again, I went the trusty dollar store and bought six cans of food. If you are interested in donating food, you can bring the canned goods to the bookstore from 1-2 PM. Help feed Cheney!

God bless & happy homecoming week,
Kailee

Day 193: Brought In The Garbage Cans

It has been one crazy week, but even in those crazy moments you can find something simple and sweet to do for someone else. On my way out the door for work this morning, I noticed that the garbages cans had all been placed on the street to be dumped. Well, what does one do once the trash has been empty? One typically returns their garbage can to its usual place. So before jumping in my car, I returned the garbage cans to their rightful driveways. Because I didn't know where everyone else's actually went and because I didn't want to creep into someone else's backyard, I left the cans at the top of driveways. It may not be much, but I know my neighbors to my right and left are both elderly and appreciate a little help. Think of that the next time YOUR garbage cans need to be taken in.

God bless,
Kailee

Day 133: Fill a Bag, Feed Families

In the mail a few days ago, I received a notecard that read National Association of Letter Carriers- Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. The note asked members of the community to fill a grocery bag with non-perishable food items and return it to the mail box by a certain day. The mail carriers then pick up the bags and take them to post office to be combined with other neighborhoods. My mom and I filled a bag of cans and dropped it off at the mailbox!

Apparently, this is the 21st Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive! The National Association of Letter Carriers run this event each year. You can learn more about the food drive and look for next year's Stamp Out Hunger date by clicking here.

God bless,
Kailee

Day 104: Collected Pop Tabs

A few days back, a friend of mine mentioned that she and another girl were collecting pop tabs from cans of pop. The tabs collected will then be donated to the Ronald McDonald House here in Spokane. It is amazing that something so simple could make that big of an impact. To help them out, I went to Bimart and bought a couple boxes of soda. With two roommates, I'm sure we will finish the pop in no time.

If you too would like to collect tabs and donate, please notify me. I'm sure the girls would appreciate all of the donations they can get. The girls are collecting tabs until May, so you still have plenty of time to drink some pop and donate! Now, I'm going to go get my root beer float on!

God bless,
Kailee
